What support Do Union Learning Representatives Get?

ULRs have the full backing of the CWU locally, regionally and nationally. ULRs work within their Branch and have the support of Branch officers and fellow Reps and ULRs. Each of the ten CWU regions has a Regional Learning Committee, which is made up of fellow ULRs, and has elected officers who are usually experienced ULRs in their own right. The CWU Education and Training Department deals with the CWU learning agenda and ULRs. It provides support and guidance, as well as maintaining the this website.

As a ULR, you also have support under the law. ULRs are legally entitled to reasonable time off to attend training and to carry out activities to do with their role. There are recognised ACAS guidelines which the CWU and employers recognise, and these are covered fully in your training. You can also find out more about this in the ULR Online Guide.

The union must give employers notice that an employee is a ULR. Your Branch can download a copy of the form Here
