200 Jobs to go as A&L closes Leicester City Centre Site
CWU today (Tuesday) calls news of 200 job losses in Leicester a "bitter blow". Alliance and Leicester, now part of the Santander Group, has today announced the closure of its Heritage House site in central Leicester and 200 more job losses across two Leicester sites.
Heritage House staff will relocate to the company's long term Leicestershire site at Carlton Park over the next few months, leaving only Branch outlets in central Leicester.
Nigel Cotgrove, Communication Workers Union national officer, said: "While the amalgamation of the two Leicester sites is not unexpected, the job cuts are another bitter blow to our hard working members and the economy in the east midlands and come on top of redundancies earlier in the year.
"In difficult circumstances the CWU has ensured that the Bank will be seeking volunteers for the redundancies and is looking to redeploy as many staff as possible. The CWU will continue to push for the maximum possible number of jobs to be maintained."
The announcement of the site closure coincides with other announcements of further job losses from both the Heritage House and Carlton Park staff caused by the continuing integration of A&L into the Santander operation. The jobs will be lost in unsecured personal loans, mortgages, collections and recoveries. Some work will be moved to other Santander UK sites.
Jobs are expected to go in the New Year.
