This business unit comprises some 33,000 employees who are deployed around the globe. BT Global Services serves corporate and government organisations across the world. It provides high performance managed networks, IT services and outsourcing solutions.
In the UK, 65% of FTSE 100 companies are customers of Global Services. Additionally it has contracts with the NHS, DWP and a number of local government authorities.
Global Services has been seen as the troubled division of BT responsible for a huge write down of £2bn in 2009. The situation has now been stablised but not without considerable pain for our members in Global Services.
The UK Service Operations part of Global Services has been through a major transformation reducing from 140 sites down to 10 strategic sites. The changes have meant a significant redeployment situation which the union has monitored carefully. A significant number of members have redeployed or transferred into other BT Divisions.
Recently a new Chief Executive, Jeff Kelly, was appointed (the third in as many years). Jeff has come from EDS and used to run their American operations. He has been given the task of leading the Division back to profitability.
