BT Group - General Conditions of Service
Most BT
Group-wide conditions of service were revised as part of the
NewGRID Agreement in 2000. However, within this framework there
maybe some issues that are dealt with on a Line of Business (LoB)
basis. Therefore, if this section of the website does not answer
your query, please refer to the page dedicated to the specific
LoB.
Accommodation
The quality of accommodation on the BT Estate is
something that affects every BT employee and everyone who uses or
passes through the Estate. Initiatives such as the "Report a
Fault Campaign" had a profound impact in raising the profile
of this issue leading directly to improvements.

Current campaigns include adequate provision of welfare accommodation (particularly the question of adequate provision of toilets for women in remote exchanges), cleaning standards, and a robust process of consultation about office moves.

NewGRID is the pay and grading structure for BT non-management grades. When introduced in 2000, it represented a major overhaul of all BT's grades and terms and conditions. NewGRID replaced a grading structure which dated back over 40 years, and which was made up of different grades and terms and conditions for different occupational groups such as Engineering and Technical, Clerical and Operators. Click here for more information and a copy of the agreement.
Discipline
CWU has a dedicated resource to look at discipline
policy issues, including high-level discipline cases. Negotiations
take place with BT at group level and within the individual lines
of business to develop a coherent discipline policy including the
highest possible level and quality of representation for members.
This includes ensuring joint and Union only based training
courses.
There is a specific resource to deal with high-level discipline cases, which involve cases of particular severity, complexity or branch officers.
